Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using HanyuLab ("the Platform", "we", "us"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Platform. HanyuLab is a service of Pearson Wang Group.

2. Description of Service

HanyuLab is a Mandarin Chinese language learning platform that provides:

• HSK vocabulary flashcards and study tools (free to access)
• A marketplace to connect learners with independent Mandarin tutors
• Stroke order practice, character history resources, and cultural learning content
• Tools for tutors to manage their availability, profiles, and sessions

HanyuLab does not itself provide tutoring services. Tutors are independent contractors who set their own rates, availability, and lesson content.

3. Account Registration

To access certain features you must create an account. You agree to:

• Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration
• Maintain the security of your password and accept responsibility for all activity under your account
• Notify us immediately at support@hanyulab.com of any unauthorized account use
• Be at least 13 years of age (users under 18 require parental consent)

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

4. Learner Conduct

As a learner on HanyuLab, you agree to:

• Attend scheduled lessons on time or provide adequate notice of cancellation
• Treat tutors with respect and professionalism at all times
• Not record sessions without the explicit written consent of your tutor
• Not share or redistribute tutor-created materials without permission
• Pay all agreed lesson fees in a timely manner

5. Tutor Conduct

Tutors on the platform are independent contractors. By listing on HanyuLab, tutors agree to comply with the separate Tutor Agreement, which governs profile accuracy, lesson conduct, and platform policies.

6. Payments and Commission

HanyuLab currently operates on a 0% commission model — the full lesson fee paid by the learner is passed to the tutor. HanyuLab may introduce subscription plans, premium features, or institutional pricing in the future. Any changes to the commission structure will be communicated to tutors no less than 30 days in advance.

Payment processing is handled by third-party providers. HanyuLab is not liable for errors introduced by payment processors.

7. Intellectual Property

All platform content — including branding, design, software, and learning tools — is the property of HanyuLab / Pearson Wang Group and is protected by copyright and trademark law. Tutors retain ownership of original materials they create. By uploading materials to the Platform, tutors grant HanyuLab a non-exclusive licence to display such materials within the context of the tutor's profile.

8. Prohibited Conduct

You must not:

• Use the Platform for any unlawful purpose
• Harass, threaten, or abuse other users or tutors
• Post false, misleading, or defamatory reviews
• Attempt to circumvent the Platform by arranging payments outside HanyuLab
• Scrape, copy, or reproduce Platform content for commercial purposes
• Upload malware or attempt to compromise Platform security

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

HanyuLab is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the Platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular learning outcomes will be achieved. We do not verify all claims made by tutors on their profiles, though we make reasonable efforts to review applications.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, HanyuLab and Pearson Wang Group shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Platform, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid to HanyuLab in the 12 months preceding the claim.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. We will notify registered users of material changes by email.
