Safety Guidelines

Respect Every Person
All learners and tutors deserve to feel safe and respected. Harassment, bullying, or abusive language will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Honest Representation
Profiles must accurately represent who you are. Do not impersonate others, misrepresent your qualifications, or create fake accounts.
Protect Minors
Tutors working with learners under 18 must maintain professional boundaries at all times. Inappropriate contact with minors will result in immediate removal and referral to authorities.
Report Concerns
If something makes you feel unsafe, report it immediately. We investigate all reports promptly and protect reporter anonymity wherever possible.
1. Community Standards
HanyuLab is a professional learning community. All users — learners and tutors alike — are expected to:
- Communicate respectfully in messages, sessions, and reviews
- Keep all interactions relevant to Mandarin learning
- Honour scheduled commitments or provide advance notice when unable to attend
- Maintain the privacy of other users — do not share contact details without consent
2. Prohibited Behaviour
The following behaviours will result in account suspension or permanent removal:
- Harassment, threats, or intimidation of any kind
- Discriminatory language based on race, gender, nationality, religion, disability, or sexual orientation
- Sharing sexually explicit or violent content
- Soliciting personal relationships outside the scope of tutoring
- Attempting to move payments off-platform to avoid accountability
- Creating multiple accounts after a suspension
- Posting false, defamatory, or misleading reviews
3. Protecting Younger Learners
Tutors who work with learners under 18 must:
- Maintain strictly professional boundaries at all times
- Only communicate through the HanyuLab messaging system during the tutoring relationship
- Not request or share personal contact details (phone numbers, social media) with minors
- Ensure parents or guardians have consented to the tutoring arrangement
Any tutor found to have engaged in inappropriate behaviour with a minor will be immediately removed from the platform and reported to the relevant authorities.
4. How to Report a Concern
If you experience or witness behaviour that violates these guidelines, please report it as soon as possible:

We investigate all reports within 2 business days (urgent reports within 24 hours). The identity of reporters is kept confidential. If we determine a violation has occurred, action may include a warning, temporary suspension, or permanent ban depending on severity.
5. Enforcement
HanyuLab reserves the right to remove content, suspend accounts, or permanently ban users who violate these guidelines, without prior notice in cases involving serious harm. Enforcement decisions may be appealed by emailing support@hanyulab.com with the subject line "Safety Appeal".

If you are in immediate danger, please contact your local emergency services. HanyuLab is not a crisis support service.
